Opposition Fan View
Unsurprisingly, they're not expecting much out of this game. Some even claiming that a draw of any kind will be a massive result. The only way they reckon they'll get anything out of the game is if we have a defensive lapse. Therefore, they're hoping we start Gomes. More than anything else, the Rover fans are hoping they at least put up a fight, don't concede any silly goals and don't put in a Hearts like performance, roll over and get thrashed. Interestingly, some think that Ricketts hasn't done enough to justify a starting place but needs to be played in this game so he can prove a point to his ex-employers. One fan gives the resigned view that, "Thursday is not about the result, it's about celebrating Shamrock Rovers Football Club"
Shamrock Rovers Fan Prediction: Spurs Win 95%, Draw 5%, Shamrock Win 0%.
Pub Ammo
-Shamrock Rovers are the current champions of the League of Ireland. They have won Ireland's top league 16 times, the previous coming in 1994.
-They are nearing the end of their domestic season and are currently in second place in the ROI league, joint on points in 1st, with a game in hand and 6 left to play.
-They're the first Irish club to play in the group stages of a major European competition.
-Former Spur Rohan Ricketts is now playing for Rovers, made 36 appearances in all competitions for us between 2002-05, scoring twice.
Team News
Harry is claiming a relatively strong side will be played. With Arsenal coming up on Sunday, that means any or very few members of our team that might even get near the starting XI for that game, will be nowhere near this one. Lennon, Rose and Pienaar are returning from injury and will probably get some game time. Other than that, I expect the line up to be as follows:
Gomes
Corluka Bassong Kaboul Rose
Lennon Livermore Carroll Pienaar
Pav Kane
That is a fairly strong squad, and one that should see off the ROI champions. For the sake of those that will be there, I'm predicting a 3-0 Spurs win. COYS.
