The goals then. Brad Friedel hoofed the ball up the field, VDV slid it to Lennon, he laid it off to the encroaching Bale, who slotted the ball in the far side of the goal. Route one nil.
Spurs were confident, QPR were adamant on giving the ball away whenever possible. King picked up a cleared ball, under the "SHOOOOT" orders of the calls from the fans, King let a shot fly, which replays show was headed for the bottom corner, only to see it deflected to VDV's feet, who sent the keeper the wrong way and slotted the ball home for our second. Half time and we could/should have been four nil up.
Second half and the next to score were QPR. A Barton corner, half dealt with and headed back into the box. Bothroyd slipped past his marker and headed in from a few yards out. 2-1 and worrying times ahead.
We needn't have worried as the fourth goal of the game came courtesy of Gareth Bale. VDV, Lennon and Bale combining in some slick one touch passing saw a Gareth Bale goal struck similar to VDV's at Blackburn last week. 3-1. Game over, but with a few arse clenching nervous moments yet to endure, in true Spurs style.
Chant of the Match:
From the QPR Fans - "West London is ours, west London is ourrrrrs, f*** off Chelsea, west London is ours!" Applause from the Spurs fans rightly deserved then responded to with both sets of fans singing "We hate Chelsea and we hate Chelsea, we hate Chelsea and we hate Chelsea, we are the Chelsea. Haters!"
Player Ratings
Friedel 6 - Little to do. But commanding as always.
Walker 7 - Lovely pace. Plenty to give going forwards and improving every game in defence.
King 7 - Oh Ledley Ledley, he's only got one knee, he's better than John Terry, oh Ledley Ledley.
Kaboul 6 - Good in defence, but almost every long pass forwards met a QPR player and gave them oppoutunity to apply to pressure.
BAE 8 - The only thing he did wrong all game was give away a corner late on. Got forward to support the attack well, as always.
Lennon 6.5 - Two assists but otherwise very quiet. Seemed unwilling to win the ball back when he lost it.
Parker 9 - Super Scotty Parker indeed. All over QPR. Full of running, quality tackles, gave everything.
Modric 7.5 - Involved in play from the back to the front.
Bale 8.5 - This was the Bale of the San Siro. Two sweet, very well taken goals, and plenty of crosses on a plate for fellow attackers.
VDV 7 - Well taken opportunistic goal following King's deflected strike, and was all over the pitch. Some very disappointing link up play with Adebayor throughout the game. Especially at 3-1 up, with some really sloppy half arsed passes that a player of his calibre should not be providing.
Ade 6 - Worked hard, but missed at least three goals on a plate. Again, spent more time offside and hugging old mate Traore than he did getting near sticking the ball in the net.
Subs
Sandro 6 - On late.
Onwards and upwards. COYS.
