A very negative team and performance from Villa resulted in a very comfortable performance from Spurs and a score line that flattered Villa. David Cameron had braved the Tottenham wastelands to sit in the stands and watch his lot get outplayed. No doubt getting tips from Spurs on how to control the right and left wings...

On the pitch, 13 minutes had passed when under "SHOOOOT" orders, Kaboul's shot deflects behind. The resulting corner falls to Bale on the edge of the box, he clips it up and over to Adebayor who bicycle kicks it past Given from six yards out. 1-0.

Later in the first half, another Bale run results in a low cross from the left, missed by Collins, bouncing off Given and into the path of Ade who pokes the ball over the line from a yard out. 2-0.

Second half, Ade could have easily had another 3. Luka playing him through the middle, one on one with the keeper but eventually firing the ball just wide. The 2nd came from a darting run through the middle by Bale who passed left to Ade just to the left of the D, the resulting shot just curled round the far post. Another low cross from Luka is spilled by Given, Ade pounces but Given reacts well to save. Shame none of them went in, because they all featured some amazingly sexy build up play.

Still, Villa never really threatened and for once, a 2-0 lead felt safe throughout.

Player Ratings & Twitter Reaction
Friedel 6.5 - Didn't have to do much, but as always, was composed and comfortable when called upon

Walker 7 - Slick passing between him and Lennon kept Heskey, (playing on the left wing) looking foolish all night. Fast tracking back when Villa were breaking and composed in defence.

King 8 - Covers the other defenders errors when needed, and makes very few of his own. A fairly quiet night for Ledley, but the composure he instils in his defence makes him worthy of his place.

Kaboul 8.5 - Beast. Won 99% of his aerial battles. Crosses, goal kicks, clearances, you name it, Kaboul had his head on it. Also made a few last ditch tackles. Only one or two minor errors that someone else was there to deal with anyway. King & Kaboul, first choice CB pairing for me now.

BAE 7 - Disco Benny returns. Odd coloured boots and an afro so big I could touch it in the 6th row. In terms of his actual football, only one mental moment and two or three misplaced passes in a match full of composure in defence, and threat in attack. Always an outlet for a pass wherever he is up the left wing.

Lennon 7 - Tormented Villa's static left wing all night, worked well with Walker and is gradually getting back to his best.

Parker 8.5 - Villa had no chance in midfield with Scotty P around. He'll chase you down until either you give the ball away, or he tackles it off of you. Either way, with Parker closing in, you aren't going to win. Made a crucial last man tackle in the box and had a sweet left footed shot aiming for the top corner deflected wide.

Modric 8 - Lovely runs, and passes into dangerous positions. Top performance.

Bale 8 - Definitely almost maybe back to his best. Two assists and made the Villa right wing look foolish all night.

VDV 7.5 - On one hand, he does come too deep to collect the ball wearing himself out after 70 minutes. On the other hand, he does link up the play and create to goals. Good performance, but a few moments where he should have shot instead of passed or vice versa and didn't look 100% fit.

Ade 8 - Scored two, chased everything down and looked like he really wanted it. Should have got his hat-trick and could have had more!

Overall, some very slick passing all over the pitch. We should have had more, but never looked in danger such was the way we dominated the match. Are we Barcelona in disguise?! COYS!
