The have some very thin striking options after Sturridge and Elmander left at the end of last season, compounded by some defensive injuries and suspensions forcing them into playing Zat Knight. A player which they say is alright in the air but is a liability with players such as Defoe, VDV and Adebayor running at them. Other than those lot, they're pretty sure Bale and Lennon will destroy their right and left backs, that's if they don't end up getting themselves red cards for the repeated fouling of said Spurs wingers. They pretty much just want to get this game out of the way before attempting to get their season back on track.

Even if he is passed fit, I'd play Defoe, no point in risking his chewing gum hamstrings straight after coming back from doing them in again. Give him a little rest.
