Cheltenham Town - Opposition Fan View, Pub Ammo & Team News. [FA Cup 3rd Round]

This Saturday brings us the seasons first game of FA Cup up against Cheltenham Town. There's no denying that the balls have been kind to us and provide an opportunity to rest some of the more weary legs in the first team. The Cheltenham Town fans know this and are hopeful of an upset to our 2nd / 3rd stringers, assuming of course Gomes starts. Some choice quotes from the ultra-optimistic Cheltenham forums on their feelings about the match:

"We just need to cause trouble from the start, be trigger happy and shoot, shoot, shoot whenever the opportunity presents itself. Spurs are only human and can be unsettled like any other team out there. If they start Gomes, we will need to get shots in first 20 minutes, one of the most unreliable keepers I have ever seen in the PL."

"I am going to go for 5-1 [to Spurs] (hope I am wrong!), with Summerfield bagging our goal. Regardless, what a day it is going to be!"

"I don't think we'll win but I really do think we could get something out of this. Spurs won't of seen this kind of support down the Lane in quite a while .."

"You know that a littleun always takes on a bigun in the 3rd round and causes a surprise. We have nothing to lose but to go for it."

"Bigger they are, the harder the fall."

Cheltenham Town Fan Predictions: Spurs Win 50%, Draw 25%, Cheltenham Town Win 25%

Pub Ammo
-This is the first competitive fixture between the two clubs.
-However the two sides have met once in a 'guarantee match' in 1946. The friendly was arranged to fill a blank Saturday following the absence of sides in the Southern League post-second World War. The idea behind 'guarantee matches' was to boost gate receipts for lower league clubs.
-The Robins have won nine of their last 10 away games and are also unbeaten in nine games.
-Spurs have not lost in their last eight domestic home games.
-The last Spurs FA Cup triumph came in 1991 after a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.
-Cheltenham last reached the third round in 2009/10 when they lost a replay to Doncaster Rovers.
-Tottenham beat League One Charlton 3-0 at this stage last year but progressed no further, losing 4-0 to Fulham in the fourth round.

Team News
Harry reports that Dawson and Lennon are in the frame for a return to the side. I'm sure if Dawson does start or come on, he'll get a spine tingling reception from the crowd. He may not be one of our first 2 choices for centre back anymore, but he is still a thoroughly good chap and Spurs semi-legend. As for Azza, he'll probably be given half hour to acclimatise to football again and stretch his hamstrings a bit. Fill remaining slots with mix of first team subs and second stringers with a spattering of key players on the bench ready to jump in should it all be going up the spout.

Cudicini
Corluka   Bassong   Dawson   Rose
Dos Santos   Livermore   Krancjar   Pienaar
Pav   Defoe

I'm predicting a first half wobble with us conceding a goal, to be followed by a half time bollocking from Redknapp, fruitless toil until 65 minutes at which point key players will be thrown on in time to turn the match round for a 2-1 Spurs win. COYS.
