Spurs 1 WBA 0 - Report, Ratings and Player Twitter Reactions

If I had to sum up the first half in one word, it would be boring. If I had to sum up the second half in one hyphenated word it would be squeaky-bum. We looked flat in the first half an the attackers really weren't in the game, the second half, we nicked a cheeky goal from nowhere, looked like we would go on and get a few more, but instead spent the last 20 minutes with our backs to the wall. Ugly, but three points all the same.

The goal came from some slick passing from VDV to Bale in the area who found Defoe in the tightest of spaces. Jermain held off four or so defenders to spin and poke his shot into the bottom corner. 1-0. And 1-0 it ended.

Player Ratings
Friedel 6 -
Made a few good saves when called upon, but looked under pressure and a bit unsure with some crosses
Walker 6.5 - Does well to control the right flank all on his own, made some good crosses mixed with some very poor intercepted passes. Still learning.
Gallas 6.5 - Good until his legs gave up and was subbed for a torn calf.
Kaboul 7.5 - Good in defence, some quality tackles and was driving the team forward with his long runs from the back.
BAE 6.5 - A better performance from Benny.
VDV 7 - Was all over the pitch, pressuring the opposition, and was performing well in possession.
Modric 6 - Bit of a quiet one for Modders. Struggled to control the midfield as he usually does and regularly gave the ball away.
Sandro 6 - Was performing well, but tore a calf muscle and was subbed.
Bale 7.5 - Assisted the goal, got his usual supply of crosses in as well. Was lucky not to get booked after shoving a West Brom player for bringing him down (right). But I don't like this Gareth Bale "free role". With Bale drifting all over the pitch, BAE and Walker don't know whether to come forward or stay back a bit more and he is often not there as an outlet for the BAE, Modric, Bale triangle on the left that produces goals and crosses. The majority of his goals and assists are coming in from the left, so please just stay there. I know with him moving about a bit it keeps the defenders guessing and gives him more space, but he has the pace to beat most defenders with Modric and BAE's passes in behind them anyway.
Defoe 7 - Quiet first half, the only clue he was on the pitch was the glowing blonde bulb that was running around. Second half came alive and scored a good goal. The goal celebration, everyone loves a bundle. Well done to Benny for instigating that. (right)
Ade 6 - Offside for 99% of the match.

Subs
Bassong 6
- Worrying, but reasonably untroubled.
Livemore 6 - Fairly good in possession. But third or fourth choice holding midfielder behind Parker, Sandro and Thudd.
Kranjcar 5 - Rusty and gave the ball away a bit in the short time he was on.
