At the end of the day fellow Spurs fans, it's a foregone conclusion isn't it? He is quoted this morning by Sky Sports as saying, "Tottenham is my team and the fans have been fantastic. It wouldn't be right to focus on anything else other than Spurs. That’s my focus.” But realistically he's never going to turn it down in the summer. And so it was written. Ramos leaves us and Harry with the soundbite that will sum up Redknapp's time here. Two points from eight games. Two points from eight games was what we had when Redknapp took over, it's what we had to listen to at every press conference in the first year. He gets us out of trouble, the following season he gets us into the Champions League, following a whirlwind ride in the promised land, the next season ends with Harry telling us we're all idiots, but in the current year he's built a team that is perhaps not realistically challenging for the title, but is oh so close to it.
Just when it all seems to be going right on the pitch, a court case threatens to take our manager from us. He survives that, only for Spurs fans to have one brief afternoon of relief before another Italian is caught deserting a sinking ship. Harry the loveable rouge, his name and path to the England managers office cleared
in one afternoon. Cue the infuriating media frenzy. Every media outlet in the land citing Redknapp for the job and calling on the FA to get it sorted straight away. Bookies odds slashed and betting frozen. The roller coaster life of a Spurs fan rattles on.Don't leave Harry, as you've said, you'll miss the day to day running of the club. You'll miss the love of the fans who sing your name when you're at your lowest. You'll miss the love the media currently give you. England manager pinnacle of your career? Never. Nobody cares about international football any more, not the fans, not the players, it's all about the glory of the club game. Building a team good enough to win the best domestic league in the world, taking on the cream of Europe in the Champions League versus cobbling together a team of ageing players only to fail at every tournament and have the media destroy your reputation? There's surely no contest? Is there?
But in saying all of that, no chairman, manager or player is bigger than the club, we will survive without Redknapp, but if we're to continue on our current path to greatness, we have to cling on to what is good. Whatever transpires over the second half of the season, finishing top four is more crucial than it has ever been. Finish in the Champions League and Harry may decide to stay. If not, we have the glitz and glamour of Europe's elite competition to attract a top manager and keep our star players. We're currently in third, eight points clear of fifth place and playing some of the best football in the land. Regardless of what Redknapp does, onwards and upwards. We won't mess this up. Believe. COYS.
